Back at the Home of the Highlanders

So I made it back to college on Wednesday. It’s honestly been really weird being able to decide what I do with my time. I worked yesterday and have had today off and I haven’t had any idea what to do. I guess that will be easier when classes start.

Anyway, when I went to the grocery store on Wednesday, the clerk who was checking me out showed me something interesting. It was a dollar bill. But it wasn’t one that could be used as valid currency. Instead of having Lincoln or Jackson or any of the figures that tend to show up on American money, it was the current president dressed in traditional Muslim clothing.

I started laughing in disbelief. And we talked about how offensive the “dollar” was. Especially since our president doesn’t even practice that religion. But when you have a presidential candidate who is alleging that our current president is the leader of a terrorist group, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise. And I’m ashamed to say that.

I really hate that people are still judging others based on race or religion. I’ve never done this because people are people and I’d much rather judge them by their character than by their background. It just bothers me that people think it’s acceptable.

Anyway, enough said on that subject.

When I got to the apartment that I share with my roommate, I made the discovery that our internet was not reconnecting, despite the order we put in to get it turned back on. So after relaxing after a long drive and unpacking, I decided to take a walk on campus.

And that’s when I started playing Pokemon Go. My school has quite a few pokestops and some of the classroom buildings are gyms (which will really help with student productivity :hehe: ). All in all, I caught quite a few pokemon, including 3 clefairies, an eevee, and a growlithe. Plus, I ran into one of my fraternity brothers while I was out and about.

Unfortunately, I had to deal with my first night back without internet. Luckily, I have a few books here and I was even able to watch the only DVD I own (Divergent).

When I went back to work yesterday, everything went smoothly and I was glad to see my co-workers again. Plus I got a free meal from working.

Anyway, that’s all for now. TTFN.

I disagree on judging someone for their religion or skin color. In my country there are a lot of racist people and I am always trying to tell them that everyone should be considered a person. These things are just generalized. If a muslim is a terrorist it doesn’t mean every single muslim is a terrorist. If a black person is aggressive it doesn’t mean everybody is. I usually can’t convince them so I just change the topic because it annoys me.

I tried Pokemon go but I wasn’t very impressed. I don’t like walking on the street with my eyes on the screen. I think is a little dangerous too, because you have to pay attention when you’re walking. I also heard a lot of stories about people who broke into someone’s house just to catch a pokemon. I think there is a place where it was forbidden, but I am not sure.

I think juding someone on what they believe in and their appearance shouldn’t be done, either. I mean honestly, I do think that sometimes, you can’t help but judge someone based on the first impression they give you. But whenever you catch yourself thinking that way you need to remind yourself that people aren’t necessarily like that and that you should keep an open mind.

As for pokemon Go my boyfriend and I are actually about to go to the park to catch some later. It has become our new sunday tradition haha.

I completely agree with you! I hate it when people assume things about others based on their religious background or where they’re from. It’s really sad that some people today still do this. I have a few friends from different backgrounds and I have to say there characters are different, of course, they have some cultural similarities but I wouldn’t all say that x group are all like this.

Thats good that you got to have some other activites to do rather than just the internet haha. I wouldnt know what to do with myself if I’m honest with you! XD Glad youre enjoying Pokemon Go though!

I love how I know exactly who you were talking about despite you not naming anyone. But that candidate has some really brash opinions and is extremely contradictory – says one thing one minute, another thing the next. At least from what I’ve seen. I’m sure the bill was just a joke, but it does personally make me uncomfortable.

It’s good that you still found something to keep you occupied. I hate admitting that I need the internet (especially when I work for a company that heavily relies on the internet, haha), but it’s true that it can be very hard to live without. Hope your internet works soon. And yay for free meals!
