"I'll carry your world"

There’s No Rest for the Wicked

Tomorrow will be my first day off in over two weeks and I’m super thrilled and so relieved. I think I’m going to use my day off to do a hike that I’ve always wanted to do. It’ll be a nice reprieve from my crazy life.

I could use a little break too because while I’m loving my internship and my job at the restaurant, it’s been hard to go through both without any breaks.

I recently kicked someone out of my life that I saw myself starting something with; but it the end, there was only confusion and anxiety and I kept getting the vibe that it was all one-sided. I’m not going to go into any more details because I want to protect my privacy as well the person I’m referring to.

But I did have some sort of epiphany as I read through my journal entries that I wrote in my freshman year of college. In one of them, I wrote out the following quote after another person left my life unexpectedly.

…people are flawed. They’re going to screw up more than once or twice. They’re going to make the same mistakes 10 or even 20 times before they realize what they’ve been doing wrong and make an effort to change it. And that’s why I’m so forgiving.

I’m not saying I forgive this person for what he did. At least not yet. I may forgive him eventually, just to help myself move on and to give myself peace of mind.

But as I read this quote that 18 year old me wrote, I realized that the person I’m supposed to end up with is probably out making some crazy mistakes. The thing is, whatever he’s doing right now will help him grow into someone that I’ll be happy to be with. And I’ll happily make some mistakes if it helps me become a better person in the long run.

I’m going to leave you with a snippet from a poem I wrote. It kind of reminds me that there are far better things ahead than any we leave behind.

So I drive these roads
Away from our hometown
I’ll no longer look back
There’s nothing but the past

And the things that could never be

Holy cow, it’s mid-June already! Time really does fly by when you’re busy. My life has been super busy lately so here are the headlines.

I Started my new Internship

Last Monday (June 5) was my first official day at my internship with my county government and it was pretty eventful. It started by me going up to HR and getting my badge so I can get into the I.T. department. My supervisor then broke everything down to me as far as what I would be doing and the timing of everything for the next couple of weeks. He then showed me how to use a KVM which stands for Kernel-based Virtual Machine. The one I’m using is basically a piece of hardware that allows for multiple computers to be hooked up to one monitor,  keyboard, etc. and I can switch each machine with the push of a button. This has been an important tool for me, so far, because it’s allowed me to load multiple computers at once with the settings designated by the department.

Luckily that’s not all I’ll be doing, I’ll be driving one of the government vehicle to different offices around the county in order to replace outdated computers designated by the department. This is a huge plus because even though I love the profession I’ve chosen to go into, I don’t like the idea of being shut up in an office all day.

Since starting my position, I’ve noticed that my wardrobe was lacking a bit as far as appropriate office attire. So I had to pick up a few items to make sure I had enough clothes to last me a week.

I’m a workaholic

Between my internship and my hostess job at a restaurant, I’ve been kept really busy lately. Today is my first day off in over a week and while I’m super thrilled to have the work this summer, I find that I really need a day off just so can do household stuff, catch my breath, and recharge. And I’ve done exactly that today.

And with my schedule at the restaurant changing weekly, I have no idea when I’ll be off again.

Happy (Belated) Birthday Catastrophe Rising!

A year ago yesterday. I posted my first blog post under Catastrophe Rising’s wordpress subdomain. I can’t believe how far this blog has come in the last few and I can’t wait to see where the next year takes it.

I’m already planning what I hope to be the site’s best theme yet (If I can find the time to finish it) and I can’t wait to see what kind of positive things it does to the site.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me and encouraged me as I’ve made a comeback to the blogging scene. Especially my blogger buddies.

Odds & Ends

? Finished the book Sad Girls by Lang Leav (I highly recommend it!)

That’s all for now!

21 Never Felt So Good

I turned 21 on Monday and for pretty much everyone in the U.S., 21 is the legal age that a person can drink and purchase alcohol. So that’s one of the first things I did.

My birthday celebrations started with me traveling to my college town so I could get some of the free things the local bars give away on a person’s 21st. Plus a couple of my close friends are still in the area so I wanted to celebrate with them.

Anyway, my celebrations officially began at 10:30 pm on Sunday with me going over to my friend’s apartment with my 2 dogs. Almost everyone in my circle of friends is a dog lover and so the apartment became crazy with activity when I brought them. My friends loved the dog cuddles and my dogs were relieved to get some attention.

Once everyone arrived, we lit the candles on a cake my friend Amanda made me as well as some cupcakes my other friends made. We then began consuming some jello-o shots that my friend Kelsie thoughtfully provided.

We then made our way to the first bar of the night. This is one directly across the street from campus and one that is well loved by the students of Radford. It was less than 10 minutes until midnight so they let me order my first drink. As we waited for our drinks to fill, I looked at the clock on my iPhone and watched as the seconds ticked to midnight, my friends counting down a long with me

My first legal drink was a whiskey and coke and while it was a little strong, I was able to finish it up. Unfortunately, we were only able to get one drink in before the bar tender did last call. So we moved on to another one of the local bars just down the street.

There, I order a blue motorcycle and it was delicious and refreshing and since we had a little bit of time before last call, I was able to talk and catch up with everyone.

Last call happened at around 1:30 and it wasn’t long after that before all of us dispersed for the night. I got back to my apartment at 2 and fell asleep at around 2:30.

I woke up at around 7 and got ready to do the 4 hour drive back to my house. The original plan was for my little brother to drive my dogs and I back up but I woke up with no signs of a hangover and lots of energy (which was surprising for having only got around 4 hours of sleep).

I made it back home later that day where I reunited with my family and relaxed for a bit before going out to Red Lobster and having a huge feast.

When we got back to the house, my family brought out my second cake and I opened presents. I got a wonderful bracelet from my step-brother, a $25 gift card to Starbucks from my brother, and note from my parents saying that they would be taking me shopping for a new outfit in the near future. My friend Amanda got me a cute tumbler cup and a gift card to Barnes & Noble.

But it’s not about the gifts I got. I’m just extremely happy that I got to spend my birthday with my precious friends and family and it meant a lot that they were able to celebrate with me.

This is the last milestone age I’ll have. After 21, I’m convinced that age is just a number and not something that is important anymore.

However, I feel like this age will have so many good things in store for me and I can’t wait to see what I accomplish at 21.

I Know the Sun Must Set to Rise

“She has been feeling it for awhile now — that sense of awakening. There is a gentle rage inside her, and it is getting stronger by the day. She will hold it close to he — she will nurture it and let it grow. She won’t let anyone take it away from her. It is her rocket fuel and finally, she is going places. She can feel it down to her very core — this is her time. She will not only climb mountains — she will move them too”

~Lang Leav, Her Time

If you’ve been following me on twitter, you probably saw the wonderful news that I’ve waited months to receive: I got the internship I mentioned in my last post.

I went in not really knowing what to expect. The secretary sat me down in my interviewer’s office where I wasn’t asked that many questions. In fact, the only question I was asked was “tell me about yourself”. So I did just that and I told him what I was used to and I explained to him how flexible I was with my work environment. We then struck up a conversation about schools and we talked about my school and stuff.

I left out of there feeling so-so about it. I was supposed to hear about on Wednesday night but it came and went and I lost hope.

But this morning I woke up to the best news I’ve gotten all year. I was so excited that I woke up my stlll-sleeping brother to tell him the news. Luckily he didn’t mind.

Anyway, next week I’ll go in to fill out some paperwork and get an idea of the schedule. And then I’ll start the following week. I’m super excited!

But I just want to thank all of the readers of this blog for their support and encouragement. It means more than you’ll ever know.

That’s all for now. I’ll write back on either Monday or Tuesday to talk about my birthday (which is this Monday, the 29th).

P.S. – I sort of got behind with return comments and I eneded up stopping after returning some of them before returning the rest right before this post. Sorry about that. ?

So now that school’s out for the summer, I’ll definitely try to add more variety of posts onto my blog, especially since I’ll have more free time to do some of my hobbies. I’ve already started reading the final book of The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer and I’ve started coding a new theme for the blog (I can’t for you guys to see it). I’ve also continued to study for the Network+ certification. It’s been really nice to do all of these things and not have to worry about coding for school or studying for finals. Also, since the weather is warm, I’ll be able to do more outdoorsy things like kayaking and hiking with my family. I think it’s going to be an awesome summer. ?

Is it allergies or…?

If you follow me on twitter, you’ve probably seen me complain about a sore throat and allergies and such. I’ve also had to deal with a stuffy/runny nose, and an occasional cough. I had some green tea this morning and it was super helpful. I only wish I could have it in an I.V. or a patch.

My step-mom seems to think it’s allergies but my symptoms haven’t been responding to allergy medicine so I’m starting to wonder if its a head cold or something. Either way, I want to feel better again so I can enjoy myself.

Starting my Summer job

I was very fortunate to find a summer job a couple days after I got home. I went to interview with one of the managers at a local restaurant and it went so well that he hired me on the spot! I was so happy because I was stressing about it as the semester came to an end I wanted to have some way of making some money for this summer.

Anyway, I’ll be starting my training tonight as a hostess and then I’ll eventually learn the tasks of a waitress with the goal of me being able to do both jobs. The pay should be good and the manager was super nice about meeting my requests for days off (especially with my birthday coming up in a week and a half).

There’s still hope

As I drove toward home last Friday, I got an unexpected call from a lady who works with the county that my hometown is in. She called to request an interview for an I.T. internship that would involve helping to install new things in county office buildings. I was shocked because I had applied to it as a last ditch effort and I had given up on finding an internship.

Anyway, when I got the details, I found out that I’ll be doing a regular (not technical thank goodness ?) interview with a Network Administrator next Tuesday. When I found out my interviewer’s job title I freaked out because (as you read above) I’m studying networks as part of training for the Network+ certification exam and if I get the position, I’ll have a chance for some hands on learning. Plus the position would be part time so I still be able to work at the restaurant and make extra money.

I’m trying not to get my hopes up but it would make my year to be able to obtain a position like that.

Me currently

Anyway, that’s all the news I have f0r now. I’ll be posting again soon!
