Catastrophe Rising

"I'll carry your world"

Up & Up & Up

My bullet journaling progress so far

So as you can see, my new theme is up! When I thought about my what I should do for Catastrophe Rising’s next theme, I thought about what inspires me. Which of course led me to my home state of Virginia. I immediately decided that I wanted to do something related to a map and after going over a few ideas, I settled on the grayscale one you see above.

My hometown isn’t on that map of course, because even though I’m pretty open when it comes to the Internet, I still like to remain safe. So you won’t find me in any of those places you see. At least not for long periods time.

If you follow me on twitter, you’ve probably seen me tweet about all the problems I was having with CSS and how frustrated I was with getting every element in the right place, even going so far as to post my problem on Stack Overflow. There was a point where I was even ready to give up and try again at some other time. But I didn’t. I persevered and kept trying and eventually, I got the results I was looking for.

While I was proud of the previous theme, I grew really tired of it’s dullness and I wanted something that looks more modern and vibrant but still unique. I think this theme (which I appropriately named Atlas after the song by Coldplay, whose lyrics are below the title) achieves that result beautifully.

While I was working on my theme, I also took the liberty of updating the other pages, shortening my About page to be more readable instead of listing every single anime or book that I’ve come across. 😆

This will probably be the last theme I’ll craft until I graduate, mainly because I’ll need to be able to focus on my studies and make sure I finish off on a high note.

What do you guys think of this new theme? If you find any malfunctions, let me know so I can fix them.

P.S. The title of this post is from another Coldplay song in case you were wondering.

  1. I’m so glad that the theme worked out for you in the end! Like I said on Twitter, it’s just a matter of patience and trial and error sometimes.

I like how it’s turned out anyway, purple is my favourite colour! 😀 I love Coldplay – it’s nice to see you reference them 😉

  2. Congrats on your new theme! It turned out great! I think it’s awesome that you kept trying. It’s a lot easier to give up, so it’s awesome that the theme turned out the way you wanted 😀

  3. The new theme is looking good. Congrats on it! It’s good you persevered until you were able to get this right. I understand how frustrating coding can be, but in the end, you made it work! ^^

  4. I’m glad you didn’t give up and kept going with your theme! I understand how frustrating it can be when the code doesn’t behave the way you want it to. I like your header image and your use of purple! That’s a neat idea to use a map of your home state.

I noticed a couple minor things. I first viewed it on mobile and everything seemed to be pushed towards the right edge of the screen, and on desktop, my window size happened to be in a resolution where the sidebar is slightly cut off on the left. (The main content slightly overlaps it.) Looking good otherwise though!

  5. Glad to see your new layout up! I love how it looks super clean and the map on your header looks neat. It’s interesting to see that your idea somehow led to Virginia XD. Glad to hear that you didn’t give up and kept on trying to find the answer to your coding problem. You’re getting there with graduation!

  6. Congrats on FIGURING THE GLITCH OUT! It always feels SO good, doesn’t it, to finally figure out a glitch. Woo hoo!

I think you’re on vacay now? Hope you’re enjoying it. 🙂 And I see those financial goals! I hope you knock them out!!
(I’m struggling with the #1PaycheckChallenge… But it’s not all together horrible. I hope I at least lose some weight or something since I can’t have those hamburgers…)

  7. I love the theme. I am sure you worked a lot on it and you can see it by uow good it looks. I am proud of you and don’t worry, CSS can be hard at times. Sometimes I feel like I am going crazy when my coding is not working. But after I calm down I realize that everything was not working because of an unclosed {} or an extra character somewhere. Soo frustrating.

I love your bullet journal. Looks way better than my failed attempts of creating something cute 😂. I hope you will keep up with it and it will help you organize yourself.
