New Theme!

So you’ve probably noticed that this site has a new look.

I finally finished my theme I’ve been working hard on and I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. It certainly isn’t bad for someone who’s been out of practice for 6 years.

Anyway, this theme is called “plumquotes” and it was made by me with a little help from HTML 5 reset.

And as you can see, it features a quote randomizer at the top which features some of my favorite quotes from some of the fictional books I’ve read. Some of them are witty/funny. Some of them are more inspirational. But I’m so happy that I was able to incorporate it into the theme because it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do.

I decided to keep the structure as basic as possible since it was my first time designing a theme in about 6 years. I figured that I didn’t really need anything complex and overwhelming. Hopefully I’ll be able to do more complex themes as my skills improve.

I’ll probably keep this one up for a while. I may try and build a new one during my winter break (Mid-December to Mid-January).

I’m really kicking myself for not saving any of the code that I used with my first domain (Field of Daydreams). I could have really used it. I thought that I had an external hard drive or flash drive with some of the code but I made maybe two drives that dated back to 6 or 7 years ago, and neither of them had the code files. So I’ve had to start from scratch. 🙁

But I’m glad that I’ve been able to relearn everything.

Anyway, If you find a glitch or something wrong with the site, please let me know.

Day Trip: Harpers Ferry

Smile the worst is yet to come

We’ll be lucky if we ever see the sun

Got no where to go,

we could be here for awhile,

But the future is forgiven so smile

-Smile by Mikky Ekko

We listened to that song on the way home. I love it because it reminds the appreciate the little things. And it was a song from the movie trailer for Paper Towns.

My day started off with me being locked in my room and unable to get out because the lock was jammed. I had to use my passport to unjam the lock. So that was interesting. :hehe:

Anyway, today my good friend, Kayla and I decided to drive the 1+ hour to Harpers Ferry in West Virginia. I hadn’t been in nearly a year and Kayla had never been so I thought it would be a nice change.

When we got there, we had a hard time finding parking. That and it was 93° F (34°C) plus the humidity. So it felt pretty sticky outside. But I was really excited to show my friend some of my favorite places.

I started off by showing her where the Appalachian Trail (AT) crosses the Potomac River into Maryland.

After crossing the bridge, we walked along the C & O (Chesapeake and Ohio) canal for bit, with river to our right.

As I mentioned, it was hot and muggy and I was almost ready to jump in and cool off.

We backtracked, deciding we would find a place in town that sold water. And we came across and old tavern that was being preserved.

We both thought it was really cool and rustic. I’m so glad that park service kept a lot of the heritage preserved.

After that, I wanted to show Kayla what is probably my favorite view in the region. Unfortunately, for us to get there, we had climb lots of steep steps. That and the heat and we were out of breath by the time we arrived. But it was a great place to stop and rest.

Jefferson Rock is hands down my favorite place in Harpers Ferry and I was glad that I could show Kayla the amazing views.

When I was in high school, I used fantasize about asking a friend with a car if they could drive me to Harpers Ferry so I could run away and hike the AT. It was really far-fetched of course but that’s how much I love the town.

On our way back down, we stopped to look in a cathedral that was just off the AT. And it was beautiful.

Unfortunately, the heat got the better of us and we were ready to head back to my car and go home. But not before getting my National Parks passport stamped.

And of course a few pictures of ourselves.

If any of you guys are ever in Washington, D.C. for a visit, I highly recommend making the trip out to Harpers Ferry. It will not disappoint.

This Month’s Poem: July 2016

So I decided to start a new segment. I figured it might be a good idea to share a poem that relates to me. It might be one that someone else wrote (all credit will be given), or one that I’ve written myself.

This is one that I wrote myself. I wrote it back in April of 2015. The person whom I’m referring to in this one has long since left my life but I still think of him often.

I wont.

Got the news that you were leaving

Got the news but not from you

They said you’re gone

Off to better things

That you’re moving on

And not word of goodbye

I used to sit around and wait for more

But not anymore

And I won’t wake up everyday

With you on my mind

I won’t fall asleep at night

With you there

And won’t pause to think

That I wish that you were there

No I won’t pretend to care

I thought there was something there

But I was wrong

I thought this path that I was going down

Was different

And I used to sit around and wait for more

But not anymore

And I won’t wake up everyday

With you on my mind

I won’t fall asleep at night

With you there

And I won’t pause to think

That I wish that you were here

No I won’t pretend to care

You’re not fighting to be in my life

So I won’t fight

No I won’t fight

To be in yours

And I won’t wake up everyday

With you on my mind

I won’t fall asleep at night

With you there

No I won’t wake up everyday

With you always on my mind

And I won’t fall asleep

Hoping that you care

And I won’t wish

That you were here

And I won’t pretend

No I won’t pretend

That I miss you

So what do you think? I enjoy constructive criticism and I know there’s always room to improve. Hope you liked it!

The Closet Hobby

A lot of people have one or two hobbies that they keep kind of secret or just prefer not to talk about with their friends. Here’s mine.

If you were to walk up to me on the street, you might not guess that I’m a huge fan of anime/manga. Sure, otakus come in all shapes and sizes but…I just don’t know if I meet the “appearance” of a typical otaku.

It actually started kind of a long time ago. As a child, I used to fall asleep to Cartoon Network (which would switch over to more mature content in the late night). A lot of times, I would wake up to anime being on and I would stay up and watch it briefly (I was between 5 and 8 so I couldn’t stay and watch the entire thing of course  ). But it turned out that some of the animes I caught were Inuyasha, Wolf’s Rain, and even some sort of version of Pokèmon.

As the years went on, I watched a lot of different shows and later found out that about half of them were anime (Dragonball Z, Ruroni Kenshin, Naruto).

When I got to middle school, when of my best friends took an interest into Fruits Basket, so naturally I followed suit. I also made some online friends that were Naruto fanatics so I went back and started watching the show from the very beginning (I only got as far as the chunin exams).

However, by the time I got to high school, I ditched it. I really hated being different and didn’t want to give anyone a reason to make fun of me or gossip. So I kept my geekery to Y.A. novels and the occasional computer jabber.

But I never really lost interest.

In my junior year, I tried to fight my interest and ended up feeling pretty bad about myself. Luckily, a lot of my friends and some of the people I hung out with were otakus. So when I started reading my school’s collection of D.N. Angel, I had some people to talk to and fan girl with.

In my senior year, I ditched manga/anime again and it pretty much stayed liked that until after my freshman year of college.

But then I realized that if I have an interest in something, I shouldn’t let anything or anyone stop me. Not even myself.

So last summer, I embraced my inner otaku and started watching anime again. I started with Attack on Titan ( Mikasa ) and then went back and watched the seasons of Inuyasha that were available on Netflix. And my fandoms just sort of extended from there.

Recently, I’ve been watching RWBY, Bleach, and Inuyasha (I found a free anime site where I could watch all the episodes).

I don’t really care if people judge me for this aspect. I am who I am and all that matters is that I embrace it.

P.S – If anyone has any anime/manga recommendations, I’d love hear them! 😀

A Day in the Life: July 2016

So this post is part of Georgie’s A Day in the Life link-up.

Today was nice. I woke up late (9:30 a.m.) and went downstairs to join the rest of my family. We did various things like read the paper and watch the morning news. Typical Sunday for us.

At around 12:30 we decided to go to the county fair. Unfortunately, when we got there, it was being pack up which was a real bummer 🙁

But that didn’t stop us from enjoying the day. We went out to eat at Red Robin (I love that place! 😀 ) where we had an enjoyable meal.

Afterwards, we took a look at some RVs. There were a lot of nice ones which was cool. We’re just looking for now but it’s nice to consider the options. It’ll be mainly my parents using it (because I’ll be off on my own adventures).

We went home and spent the afternoon relaxing. I alternated between watching baseball (Yes, I keep up with sports) and reading my book (Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare ).

And that’s pretty much it.

What is your mind?

Lots of things I guess. I’m hoping I can get the WordPress theme I’ve been working on up to my standards. I miss being at school and can’t wait to go back. I can’t wait to be a more productive member of society again. How to keep preventing spam from here. My wrists are sore from typing.

What is making you anxious? Are the things on your mind making you anxious?

I’m anxious to get back to school. I miss my friends and I kind of miss being on my own. I miss going to class. There’s a class that I can’t wait to get out of the way. I wish August would hurry up and get here.

What is making, or will make, you smile?

My dogs, my family, just being on here and in my element.

Did you make any difficult decisions today?

Not really. I’m glad I didn’t have to use my brain much today.

Is there anything that you have realized that will make things difficult for you soon?

I need to study up on Java. I need to stay sharp so I won’t be lost when I go back to class. I remember a lot of the stuff, I just need to review and solidify it.

What is something new that happened today?

Well my friend and I are starting to plan out our vacation for spring break. We’ve decided to go back to Savannah. We talked about what we would do and where we would stay. It’s still a long ways away but I’m really excited.

What are some positive things that happened today?

I got to have a really nice lunch. I got to sleep in. I didn’t have to worry too much today.

What can you do to help yourself relax short-term?

Meditating. Watching some of my favorite shows. Read. Exercise.
